Day 2: Identity Before Activity

Reading: Matthew 3:13-17

Devotional: Before Jesus healed anyone, before he preached a single sermon, before he performed a single miracle, the Father spoke over him from heaven. The declaration was not a reward for performance. It was an announcement of identity. God called Jesus beloved before the ministry ever began. The same principle applies to you. God does not wait until you have accomplished enough to call you his own. He establishes who you are before he sends you out to do what he has called you to do. You do not work your way into belonging. You work from a place of already belonging. That changes everything.

Reflection: Are you serving God in order to earn his approval, or are you serving from the security of already having it? How might that distinction change the way you approach your day?
