Day 5: Living for the Applause of Heaven
Reading: Galatians 1:10
Devotional: Paul asks a question in Galatians 1:10 that every believer must eventually answer: am I trying to win the approval of people or of God? He then makes a sobering statement -- if he were still trying to please people, he could not be a servant of Christ. At some point, those two pursuits will come into direct conflict. You cannot fully surrender your life to God while handing the steering wheel to someone else's opinion. Freedom is not found in becoming indifferent to people, but in becoming so rooted in who God says you are that no human verdict can overturn His declaration. You are His. That is enough.
Reflection: Make a deliberate decision today about whose voice receives the greatest authority in your life. Write out a simple declaration of identity based on what Scripture says about you, and return to it whenever the approval trap begins to pull at you again.
