Real Faith for Real Life Wk2

Nov 9, 2025    Seth Barber

This powerful message from the book of James challenges us to move beyond surface-level faith into a lived-out, action-oriented relationship with God. Drawing from James chapter 1, we're reminded that real faith isn't about having everything together or appearing perfect—it's about recognizing our desperate need for a Savior and allowing that truth to transform how we live. The message confronts us with an uncomfortable reality: we can listen to God's word, nod in agreement, and walk away unchanged, like glancing in a mirror and immediately forgetting what we look like. James, the brother of Jesus who went from skeptic to martyr, writes with urgent clarity that faith without action is meaningless. When trials come—and they will come—we're called to seek wisdom from God, but we must do so with undivided loyalty. The metaphor of the Titanic receiving six iceberg warnings yet dismissing them hits hard: how many times has God tried to course-correct our lives while we've been too busy to listen? True faith manifests in how we love the overlooked, control our tongues, and refuse to ride the fence between God and the world. This isn't about religious performance; it's about genuine transformation that moves from information to revelation to life change.

Chapter 1: Christianity Is for Real People

0:00 - 7:00

Christianity is not for those who appear perfect, but for ordinary people who recognize their need for a savior and experience genuine transformation through encountering Jesus.

Chapter 2: Seeking Wisdom in Times of Testing

7:00 - 15:00

When we face trials and don't know what to do, we should humbly ask God for wisdom, which comes through His Word, wise counsel, and the Holy Spirit.

Chapter 3: The Danger of Divided Loyalty

15:00 - 23:00

When our loyalty is divided between God and the world, we become unsettled and unstable, unable to find peace or receive from God.

Chapter 4: Faith With Feet: Putting Action to Our Beliefs

23:00 - 35:00

Real faith must be lived out through action, not just words - we must be quick to listen, slow to speak, control our anger, and actually do what God's Word says.

Chapter 5: Course Correction Before Disaster

35:00 - 43:00

Like the Titanic ignoring six warnings about icebergs, we must not dismiss God's attempts to get our attention and course correct our lives before disaster strikes.
