Day 4: Gracious and Attractive Speech

Devotional: Paul instructs us to let our conversation be "gracious and attractive" and to speak words that are "good and helpful" and encouraging. This is the goal for Christ-followers—speech that builds up rather than tears down. Sadly, statistics show that most people who leave church do so because of hurtful words spoken by other believers. Our words have driven people away from God's family and sometimes from God Himself. This should grieve us deeply. The place where gracious speech is often hardest is at home with those we love most. We can be kind to strangers while being harsh with our spouse or children. Today, commit to being intentional with your words. Before speaking, ask: Is this gracious? Is this helpful? Will this encourage?
