Trending:Identity Week 2

Aug 9, 2026    Seth Barber

What if the most liberating thing we could do is stop trying to define ourselves? In a world that constantly tells us to follow our hearts, create our own truth, and be whoever we want to be, this message cuts straight to the heart of one of the most pressing questions we face: Who am I, really? We explore how culture offers us a counterfeit identity built on feelings, achievements, relationships, social media approval, and even our mistakes, and how every one of those foundations eventually crumbles. Drawing from Genesis 1 and Psalm 139, we are reminded that we were not accidentally formed. We were intentionally knitted together by a God who assigned our value before we ever accomplished a single thing. The one who created us is the only one qualified to define us, and what He says is far greater than anything the world offers.

Chapter 1: The Culture's Answer to Identity

0:00 - 4:51

Culture tells us that identity is something we create for ourselves, but this places an impossible and exhausting burden on us.

Chapter 2: Created on Purpose, With Purpose

4:51 - 12:30

God created us in His image, which means our value is not earned but given, and the One who formed us is the One who gets to define us.

Chapter 3: Sin Distorted Our Identity, But Christ Restores It

12:30 - 22:02

Sin caused humanity to look everywhere except God for identity, but through Christ we receive a completely new identity that is secure and unchanging.

Chapter 4: Living Free in the Identity God Gives

22:02 - 32:38

We are called to lay down the counterfeit identities the world offers and embrace the true, lasting identity we have as children of the King.
