Day 4: Disagreement Without Destruction

Reading: Romans 14:1 and Romans 14:19, James 1:19

Devotional: The early church was filled with people who disagreed -- about food, about holy days, about cultural practices. Paul did not tell them to pretend those disagreements did not exist. He told them to pursue peace and to build one another up. James echoes this, urging believers to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Disagreement only becomes division when being right becomes more important than being Christ-like. You can hold your convictions firmly and still extend grace generously. The two are not in conflict. In fact, they reflect the very character of Jesus, who came full of both grace and truth.

Reflection Question: Is there a disagreement in your life that has crossed the line into division because one or both parties refused to listen or extend grace?
