Day 4: The Danger of Following Feelings

Reading: Proverbs 3:5-6 and Matthew 7:24-27

Devotional: Feelings are gifts from God, but they were never designed to be our compass. The sermon illustrated this clearly: feelings change with circumstances, sleep, and stress. They can be manipulated. They are right only about half the time. Yet our culture insists we follow our hearts and live our truth. Scripture offers a different path. Proverbs instructs us to trust God completely rather than leaning on our own understanding. Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with a stark warning: the person who hears His teaching and ignores it is building on sand. Storms are coming for all of us. The only question is what your foundation is made of.

Reflection: Can you identify a time when following your feelings led you in the wrong direction? What would it have looked like to filter that moment through God's Word instead?

Practical Application: The next time you face a decision today — large or small — pause before acting on how you feel. Ask yourself: what does God's Word say about this? Make the decision based on truth rather than emotion.
