Road to the Resurrection Week 3

Mar 15, 2026    Seth Barber

This powerful message takes us to one of the most celebrated yet misunderstood moments in Jesus' ministry: His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We discover that the same crowds who shouted 'Hosanna' on Sunday would cry 'Crucify Him' by Thursday, revealing a sobering truth about conditional faith. The sermon challenges us to examine whether we follow Jesus for what He can do for us or for who He truly is as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Drawing from Luke 19 and John 12, we see how Jesus intentionally rode a donkey rather than a war horse, signaling He came to bring peace with God, not political revolution. The crowd wanted deliverance from Rome; Jesus offered something far greater: salvation from sin. This message confronts our modern tendency to treat Jesus like a genie in a bottle, breaking the glass only when we need Him to fix our circumstances. Instead, we're called to genuine worship that comes from surrendered hearts, recognizing that everything beyond our salvation is grace. The question posed is direct and personal: Are we following Jesus for what we hope to gain, or because He has already given everything by dying for our sins?

Chapter 1: The Triumphal Entry and Fulfilled Prophecy

0:00 - 11:01

We explore the events leading to Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, examining how He intentionally fulfilled prophecy by riding a donkey, revealing His identity as the humble King who came to bring peace.

Chapter 2: The Crowd's Misplaced Expectations

11:01 - 23:14

We examine how the crowd welcomed Jesus as a political deliverer rather than a suffering Savior, wanting freedom from Rome instead of salvation from sin, revealing our own tendency to want Jesus to fix circumstances rather than transform hearts.

Chapter 3: The Pharisees' Resistance and Our Heart Examination

23:14 - 33:40

We see how the Pharisees resisted Jesus despite knowing Scripture, choosing control over truth, and are challenged to examine our own hearts to ensure we're not following Jesus for what we hope to gain but for who He is.

Chapter 4: Surrendered Worship Regardless of Outcomes

33:40 - 40:47

We are called to genuine worship that comes from surrendered hearts, trusting God completely even when we don't understand everything, recognizing that Jesus has already given us the greatest gift by paying the debt of our sin.
