The Unarrested Heart

May 3, 2026    Seth Barber

This powerful message introduces us to a concept that might seem unusual at first: the unarrested heart. Drawing from Proverbs 4:23, we're reminded that above all else, we must guard our hearts because everything we do flows from it. But what does it mean to have an arrested heart? Just as physical arrest takes us from where we want to be to where we don't want to be, spiritual arrest happens when our hearts become shackled by bitterness, grief, anger, addiction, or unforgiveness. These invisible chains lead us to places we never intended to go—broken relationships, spiritual emptiness, destructive patterns. The message challenges us to understand that our heart, biblically speaking, is our soul: our mind, will, and emotions combined. This is the control center of our lives, and what resides there will inevitably flow outward into our words, choices, and relationships. The beautiful parallel drawn between our physical and spiritual hearts reveals profound truth: just as our physical heart pumps blood throughout our body, our spiritual heart circulates whatever is inside it throughout our entire life. If toxins are present, they spread. If health exists, it flourishes. The call is clear: we need regular spiritual checkups, intentional boundaries, and daily surrender to allow God to transform what's inside so that what flows out reflects His character rather than the world's influence.
